Alo Moves

When instructional fitness video company Cody (see project below) was acquired by yoga clothing company Alo, it was renamed and rebranded Alo Moves. With some help from a local design shop we established a look and feel that was inline with established Alo brand aesthetics. I then fleshed out the rest of the site with our newly established brand guidelines. Going forward, my crafty team kept pace with our continuous releases of new features and updates to the main website, iOS app, tvOS app, and Android app. As the lead designer I helped bring many major product features to life starting from a basic idea through to the finished production. Working closely with the in-house developers we ensured accurate translation from design to implementation to provide the best possible customer experience across a range of screens.

Halo Artisan Skin Care

Halo approached me as an established purveyor of handmade soaps and skin care products, but was ready to update their logo and branding and, subsequently, the entire product line. Our goal was to create an elegant and airy identity. After early logo explorations involving using the "O" in halo as a visual metaphor, the new approach was to highlight their formulas' natural ingredients. This led to the leaf doubling as the crossbar of the H. Additional brand explorations included the tree ring patterns which were used as the secondary logo mark as well as a background pattern at the bottom of all packaging designs.

Cody

Cody is a web- and mobile-based app that produces instructional fitness videos and inspirational lifestyle content for all walks of life. As the lead designer, I brought many major product features to life while helping to progressively define and develop the brand voice. Working closely with the in-house developer, we ensured accurate translation from design to implementation to provide the best possible customer experience across a range of screens.

Modular Mobiles

The hanging sculptural mobile is a delightful balance of art and engineering. The system of construction for these mobiles is based around a limited number of pieces — or modules — composed in different ways resulting in limitless combinations. Inspired by strong, simple, and utilitarian typography of the early to mid-century, I chose an all-caps sans serif. The condensed M is repeated not only to become the name's acronym but to become a module in its own right and "suspended" at the ends of what serves as the analogy of the mobile's structural crossbar. This allows for a dynamic logo that can be resized to fit whatever width it is being applied to, and then positioned or "hung" from the top of the design. The sidebar variation serves as an unobtrusive design to let photography be the focal point, but its strong vertical orientation is also reminiscent of the mostly vertical mobiles themselves.

Center for Commercialization

The University of Washington's C4C needed their new site to have more prominent calls to action as well as to be responsive as many of the site's visitors are students viewing on their phones. Using their current site and branding as a baseline, clearer hierarchy was established, clutter was organized, and the overall experience was wholly considered and defined. Work done while at Pixelube.

Steamy Knights Carpet Cleaners

A well-designed identity can help small businesses appear as legitimate and trustworthy as their larger, national competition. This levels the playing field and allows them to be equal contenders in the customer’s mind while instilling trust back into service industry house calls. The retro aesthetic harks back to the era when said house calls were more commonplace.

Starting at the essential foundation of a distinct and memorable name, Steamy Knights is a complete brand identity system for a steam cleaning business.

Boxella

Ever need to find the manual for an appliance you bought years ago? Or the receipt to cash in a rebate? Find it impossible staying up to date on product recalls? These and other problems are addressed using Boxella — an iOS and web-based app to keep the paperwork of all your “things” in order. Starting with branding, the look and feel were established. User flow was whittled down, and a basic marketing site was put together. Work done while at Pixelube.

Square Ware

Square Ware is a self-initiated brand which encourages honestly highlighting our quirky idiosyncrasies. Initially conceived as a backlash to cheesy college-humor-type shirts, Square Ware inspires substance and intellect. We all nerd out about something. Embrace your inner geek; embrace your squareness. This multi-faceted project entailed the logo and branding, website, t-shirts, posters, and packaging.

Logos

When done well, a logo succinctly suggests the function of a company or organization while establishing a voice and mood. An exercise in concept and simplicity, the “easiest looking” logos are often the most challenging.

Who's This "Robert" Anyway?

Well I'm glad you asked

Though I’ll always be figuring that out, for now, I am a multi-instrumentalist music lover, vintage motorcycle rider, amateur dog masseur, hanging mobile sculpture enthusiast, half-marathon runner, sucker for a good documentary, and wilderness lover.

If you like what you see here I am currently available for hire and on the lookout for a design shop where I can learn, grow, and flourish among like-minded individuals. If you know of such a place I'd love to chat about it!

Bob is a fantastic graphic designer with an infectious positive personality. It has been a great opportunity for me to work with Bob professionally and personally. I have recommended him to several colleagues and he has always exceeded their expectations.”
